Me

I graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 2012 with a Masters in Fine Art (MFA). I currently work as the Urban Art Coordinator with Queensland Rail and maintain a studio painting practice. Read my thesis Provisionality and the Impossible Task of Painting here.

My Paintings

These paintings relate to my interest in the relationships between lived human existence and how that translates into an image, and signals narrative. The process of photographing lived experience and spending time with the photograph, while turning it into a painting instils a sense (for me) that reality eludes every kind of documentation. What we gain by viewing something reflects our own experience of visual communication. Within a photograph or a painting it is shapes and colours which join together to establish what we understand as representation. My hope is that using these shapes and colours, within the context of a painting, helps to define the ambiguity of visual language and challenges what the viewer understands to be abstraction.

These paintings are made by photographing people in public spaces (predominately Brisbane City).
